Distractions

hey friends....I had planned on a fun Thanksgiving post today, but this is a guest post I wrote last week for my friend Nicole, and it's still heavy on my heart. So I'm going to share it here for all of you who missed it.  But don't miss Nicole's blog, Bloom.  Go check it out. You won't be disappointed.

I want to talk to you today about distractions. They are everywhere. Twitter, pinterest, even blogging. There are a million things grasping for our attention EVERY DAY.

For me, it’s so easy to get sidetracked from my goals. I start a school year, project, or whatever it is with such high goals and somewhere along the way, they fall by the wayside. I find myself “just wanting to survive” the semester/project/goal. Just making it.

I believe in a God that is bigger and more powerful than “just making it.”
hope
So whatever you’re endeavoring to do, be it school, a new job, a job search, a new husband, a new relationship, a new business, I pray that you pray about it. Tell God your hopes and dreams and goals for it. Write them down.

And when the middle comes—you know the middle, that lag. That point at which it’s not new, but it’s not over…when that time comes, keep praying. And turn off the phone. Stay away from the blog for a day. A week, if you can. Don’t tweet for a while. Put away all the things that distract you and keep your eyes on your Savior and your goal. And friends, please keep talking to Him as you go. Tell Him all you’re feeling.

I have found that when I feel most disconnected, discouraged, and distracted, I just need to turn off and unplug. Life won’t end; things will resume when you come back to them, but time with God in the midst of chaos is not replaceable.

My favorite time of the day has become the early mornings. It’s hard to get up, I know, but it’s the only time of the day that’s quiet. It’s precious time when I can talk to the Lord and get ready for the day. And girls, when we start the day with our eyes on Him, the whole day looks different. I hope you will make it a point to have at least one earlier morning soon.
I hope you find time for quiet and peace and put away distraction. Journal, write, pray, read, but girls, let’s not let distraction stop us in our tracks. Use this Thanksgiving to break away and unplug.
